Draft Planning Scheme for an Area of Poolbeg Peninsula

Following the public consultation phase for the Draft Poolbeg Planning Scheme, the Docklands Authority has received 111 submissions from a broad range of stakeholders. All points raised are currently being reviewed and considered before the planning scheme is finalised.

In accordance with its statutory responsibilities, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority is now carefully considering the submissions received in relation to the draft planning scheme and the effects on the environment of the proposed development and may amend or modify the Draft Planning Scheme to take account of their content. Following this process the Planning Scheme, the Environment Impact Statement (EIS) and copies of all submissions will be submitted to the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government. .Before approving the Planning Scheme, the Minister has regard to the Environmental Impact Statement and to any views submitted by interested parties in relation to the draft planning Scheme and to effects on the environment of the proposed development. The Minister may also request further information in relation to the effects on the environment of the proposed development if considered necessary. The Minister may approve the ensuing planning scheme with or without modifications.

Copies of the submissions may be inspected at the Dublin Docklands Authority offices, 52-55 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2 and/or purchased by interested parties for a fee to cover copying costs. The overall vision for the development of the Poolbeg Peninsula is to create an urban waterside quarter that facilitates sustainable and consolidated growth of Dublin city and articulates a new relationship between the city and the bay. It is planned that the new quarter will provide for commercial, residential, cultural and amenity uses, whilst balancing the essential industrial and infrastructural requirements of the area. The recreational and amenity potential will be enhanced through a landscape and environmental framework, designed to optimise the natural resources of the peninsula.
